Trucks Collide As Driver Falls Asleep

A chemical truck driver fell asleep behind the wheel resulting in the truck collision and explosion.

Huayyai, 9 June 2011 [Pattaya Daily News]: Huayyai Police was informed of two trucks collision at Kaomaikeaw bridge Sai 36 Rd, Moo 10, Banglamung, Chonburi.

According to Sawangboriboon rescue team and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation of Banpong, a white Hindo chemical truck of Nakornsawanthungprasert Co. Ltd was on fire.

Fortunately the chemical tank was empty at the time of fire, a fireman said adding that the blaze took approximately 20 minutes to extinguish.

The truck driver, Teerapat Viengsuk, 37 was taken to Banglamung Hospital complaining of a tight chest pain after he escaped out of the truck via the window.

Teerapat reported that he was sleepy and heavy-eyed behind the wheel on his way to Lamchabang Port.

As the result his truck collided into another truck in front and his truck soon exploded.

The driver of the other truck fled the scene quickly, Teerapat said.

Sleepiness during driving is very dangerous on the road, an officer said.

Fortunately nobody was killed in the accident and there was no chemical explosion, the officer added.
