The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is arranging a special campaign to promote agro-tourism in these provinces, where tourists are invited to visit fruit orchards.

It has joined forces with 40 fruit planters in these provinces to arrange fruit tours, which will not only include a walk around the trees and groves, but also include fruit buffets in various orchards where the fruit are grown.

Executive Director of the TAT Eastern Region Santi Chudintra said that touring the fruit orchards in any of these provinces gives tourists visiting Thailand a new range of experiences to enjoy. People can learn about the lives of orchard growers, pick their own fruit from trees, and taste them at their freshest. These experiences are family-friendly and can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

Tropical fruit crops, such as durian, rambutan, mangosteen, and zalacca are grown in abundance in the three provinces. Several varieties of Thai fruit have medicinal properties to fight certain diseases. For instance, mangosteen contains a substance that is resistant to viruses and may reduce hypertension. Rambutan is believed to help cure diarrhea, while durian is high in calcium and phosphorus.

Located about 220 kilometers from Bangkok, Rayong is a delightful seaside province. It is most well known for its pristine beaches and scenic waterfalls set amidst exotic surroundings. The province also produces an abundance of seafood products, such as shrimp paste, fish sauce, and dried seafood. Ko Samet, an island off the coast of Rayong, is a magnet for nature lovers.

Chanthaburi, about 245 kilometers southeast of Bangkok, has set a vision to become a trading center for organic fruit and one of the world’s most important processing and trading centers for top-quality gemstones. Durian, in particular, is grown in abundance in Chanthaburi, which is known as the only province in Thailand, and in the world, where the majority of farmers are engaged in durian production.

About 315 kilometers from Bangkok, Trat borders Cambodia and comprises 52 large and small islands. The most famous island in this province is Ko Chang, or Elephant Island, the second largest island in Thailand after Phuket in the South. It is noted for the beauty of its undersea world, especially fine coral reefs. The island is the perfect place for nature lovers wishing to see the wilderness and pristine nature.

The summertime is a good period to visit and explore many amazing places in Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat, which are ready to welcome all visitors during the tropical fruit season.
