Triathlon Sports Event 2007 To Take Place On Jomtien Beach, Pattaya

Pattaya City Council is keen to promote a triathlon sports event which will include swimming, running, and bicycle riding. Water sports are of particular interest and the development of the skills of the water sports’ athletes is top of the agenda. The events will be open to school students, residents, tourists and any other interested persons, especially foreigners and tourists.

Preliminary events will start on 10th February at 1.30 pm on Jomtien Beach with a 775 metre swimming event which will follow a triangular pattern from the beach to the sea and then return to the beach. Next, the competitors begin a 5.1 km running race along the beach to the Swai Seafood Restaurant and back to the Grand Jomtien Hotel. Following this, there will be a 20.1 km cycling race from the hotel, along the beach to the Pattaya Park Hotel, up Prathumnak Hill, down to the Tourist Authority of Thailand Pattaya Office and then back down to the start line.

The preliminary meeting to decide the organization and scope of this challenge was held at Pattaya City Hall on February 1st, chaired by the Deputy Mayor of Pattaya, Mr Wattana Chanthanawarranon. There will be a further, more formal meeting on February 5th to announce the name of the competitors. The competitions will be open for students, local residents, foreign residents, tourists and those overseas.
