Transnational Drug Gang Arrested With 3 kg Of Meth

Narcotic Control Board have arrested a transnational drug cartel who ordered drugs from China through a shipping company. They seized more than 3kg of crystal methamphetamine.

BANGKOK – April 11,2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 13:00 , at the Office of Narcotic Control Board,Pol.Lt.Gen. Pongsapat Pongjarern, the general secretary of the ONCB, held a press conference to announce the arrested of a transnational drug trafficking gang,which consisted of Mr Nanag Suhendra,37 years old Indonesian, Mrs Iti ROheti Asep Jelany, 38 years old Indonesian, Mrs Habiba , 57 years old Indonesian, Miss Akino Kamillemae, 29 years old Filipina, Mr.Okole Francis Eseu, 35 year old Nigerian, and Mr.Hasman Maman, 32 years old Niger, with 3.5 kg. of crystal meth evidence.

Pol.Lt.Gen Pongsapat Pongjarern revealed that, the officers knew about a transnational drug trafficking gang and put them under surveillance. The police were aware that the gang purchased drugs from Guangzhou city ,in The Republic of China through a shipping company and receive it by parcels. The police also knew that they would smuggle the bulk of the crystal meth into Thailand to sell in tourist attractions in Bangkok. The police knew from their investigation that Mr Nanag would go and collect the parcels from the shipping company so they followed him and once he collected the parcel they arrested him with 530grams of crystal meth. They then expanded the case to arrest the whole gang, in soi Ramkamhang 164, Minburi district and subdistrict, where they also found another 3 kg of crystal meth.

The police also found a white powder packed in 49 condoms which the suspects told the officers they would use to practice swallowing so they could conceal the drugs internally. In addition the officers also found a list of 12 Thai and foreigners most of them women that would travel to China and swallow the drugs before returning to Thailand with the drug concealed inside their bodies.

The charges against the gang were for the possession of a type-1 drugs ( crystal meth ) for sale, which is illegal under the narcotics Act 1979, the maximum sentence of punishment is execution. Then the ONCB would cooperate with the ONCB of Nigeria, Niger, the Philippines, Indonesia to expand the case and seize the properties of all the people related to it. A conference of the ASEAN ONCB will also be held to discuss a solution to intercept and to put a stop to this type of drug smuggling through shipping companies. All the arrested suspects have been held pending a court appearance.
