Traditional ‘Quick & Easy’ Goulash

This traditional goulash recipe cooks all in one pot. If you put the steak in the freezer for 15-20 minutes, it will be much easier to slice into strips.

1 Tbsp. oil

1 kg beef sirloin steak or pork, partially frozen, sliced into thin strips

1 large onion, chopped

1 green bell pepper, chopped

1-1/2 cups water

large can tomatoes chopped with juice

small can tomato puree

1 tsp. sugar

1 Tbsp paprika

1/2 tsp caraway seed

1/4 tsp pepper


In pan, heat oil and cook steak strips and onion over medium high heat, until browned, about 3-5 minutes. Stir in all remaining ingredients. Stirring well, bring to the boil. Reduce heat to medium and cook, covered, for 15-25, stirring frequently. Alternately, after browning the meat, all ingredients may be put into a slow cooker and left to cook for an hour. Serve with pasta, rice or potatoes and vegetables.
