PATTAYA – July 20, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; A reporter was informed that a child died after dogs bit him, and relatives had brought his body to perform religious rites at Wat Chaimongkol, South Pattaya, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

The reporter went to the scene and found Mrs. Wanna Petchmas, 25, crying with sadness over the dead child, Peerapat, or “Soda” Hengprakone, age 2, at the student level of preparing-kindergarten. She was preparing to perform the ritual of watering the body at the small children center of Wat Chaimongkol, South Pattaya. Several grieving relatives and close friends also came to provide comfort.

Mrs. Wanna said that at about noon that day, she and Soda were staying in a house at 327/174 Soi Bongkot 2, Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province. Her husband, Mr. Nattawong Hengprakone, had driven the car to work.

While she was washing clothes, Soda walked out from house to the parking lot about 20 meters from the house, to bring the toys that he forgot in the pickup truck parked there. Soda had always ridden his bicycle there with other children.

After about 15 minutes, Mrs. Wanna heard people shouting that a child was bitten by the dogs. She ran outside and found Soda lying down with a pool of blood on the ground. His body had severe bite wounds on his head and neck. There were two stray dogs standing near Soda’s body, so she ran to carry him to bring to Pattaya Memorial hospital, but Soda died later from his wounds.

The reporter investigated the scene and discovered that the attack took place on a dirt field that had housed a camp of the construction workers. But the workers had already moved away to another job and left behind the two dogs: “Joe,” a mixed-breed white dog; and “Toob,” a brown dog.

Mr. Boonlert Pomthong, 54, a local resident, said that people took pity on the abandoned dogs, and fed food and rice to them. Usually the dogs were not so fierce, he said. However, they did always chase children, but never bit anyone, and he didn’t understand why they had bitten Soda to death.

After the dog attack, people asked Muang Pattaya authorities to capture the two dogs before they bite other children. However, no officers have come yet to capture the dogs.
