Bangkok, the 7th of October 2010: Organisers of the tournament announced Thursday that Woods would visit Thailand to compete in the event, his first return to the country of his mother’s birth in nearly 10 years.

The event, held at the Amata Spring Country Club in Chon-Buri, will be a one-day skins tournament organised to commemorate His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 60th jubilee as monarch of the Thai Kingdom.

The Amata Spring Country Club is a world-class golf course, the host of the 2010 Royal Trophy and former location for the Honda LPGA Thailand Open. The course boasts the only ‘floating green’ in Asia at the par-3 17th and is approximately 7,400 yards in length off the championship tees.

Other competitors scheduled to appear at the November 8 event include England’s ten-time European Tour winner Paul Casey, this years PGA Honda Classic winner Colombian Camilo Villegas and Thailand’s top ranked golfer, with four European Tour wins, Thongchai Jaidee.

Woods, who is widely regarded as being half Thai (an in-depth analysis of his heritage reveals him to be in fact ¼ Thai), has not visited the Kingdom since his appearance at the Johnnie Walker Classic (Bangkok) in November 2000.

Still holding a slender lead atop the official world golf rankings, Woods has been undergoing somewhat of a tumultuous year in 2010. Marred by revelations of his infidelity and a subsequent divorce from wife Elin Nordegren, Woods, who most consider to be the greatest golfer of all-time, has only featured in 13 tournament this year with a best place finished of tied-fourth at the Masters and U.S. Open Championships.
