Pattaya, the 20th of June 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: In an announcement at the Pattaya City Hall on Sunday, police Colonel Theeraphon Jindaluang (Chon-Buri Police Deputy Superintendent) and Colonel Nanthawut Suwanla-ong (Pattaya Police Superintendent) revealed the successful arrest of 3 suspects involved in the brutal assault and robbery of Senior Sergeant Major Banjob Prasertsopha on Friday the 18th of June.

The incident, involving 11 members of an illegal loan shark gang, caused the officer to be admitted to the Pattaya Memorial Hospital suffering from concussion, a deep head wound and severe facial swelling/bruising. The attack allegedly occurred over an unpaid debt taken out with the gang by a friend of the officers’ wife. Having fled the area due to the unpaid debt Mr. Prasertsopha’s wife was deemed responsible for the payments by the gang, as she signed as the guarantor on the loan. Unaware of his wife’s dealings with her friend the officer confronted the gang and was subsequently assaulted.

Following the brutal attack the original report stated one member of the gang stole the officers mobile phone, however, now it appears that an amount of 6,000 baht in cash was also taken by the gang. Bt6,000 is believed to also have been the amount left outstanding on the Bt30,000 loan.

Subsequent police investigations found that the gang, originally hailing from Chantaburi, were residing at the residence of a Mr. Somphan Khammanee [39] in Banglamung. Obtaining a search warrant police raided the premises finding a 9mm semi automatic pistol, a .38 calibre pistol and a substantial amount of ammunition for both firearms as well as several mobile phones. All of the gang members, including the leader managed to escape the scene before the search was instigated.

Resultant investigations led police to the arrest of 3 suspects involved with the incident, Mr. Witsanu Jaengkrajang [47], Mr. Thawatchai Jitbantherng [36] and Mr.

Niran Jamrueng [42]. Under interrogation all 3 suspects admitted to their part in the brutal bashing and robbery of Snr. Sgt. Maj. Banjob Prasertsopha also detailing the names and addresses of the other 8 gang members, including the leader. According to the detained suspects, the leader, Mr. Prahpot Prasert [34] was the one responsible for striking the officer with a glass bottle and stealing the mobile phone and an amount of cash.

Police Colonel Jindaluang stated that warrants had now been obtained for the arrest of the fugitive 8 suspects whilst the apprehended men have been remanded in police custody awaiting further judicial proceedings to commence.
