BANGSAEN – December 19, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 6.30 p.m. a report of two thieves using deception to steal gold from two young girls in Laem Thong department store, Bang Saen, was received by Pol. Lt. Col. Paphonphat Baiya, Inspector, Saensuk police station. So he sent a police team to blockade all of the area.

The theft of gold and other personal property was reported by Ms. Praethong Buathong, age 17, along with her younger sister who had been shopping with her in the department store.

The two girls had been approached by two women, one of them fat and the other thin. The womean were long-time thieves who had disappeared from the area of Chonburi for a long while, but had returned. The two thieves approached the victims after they noticed the two girls were wearing a lot of gold jewelry and rings.

The two thieves used their old trick to tell the girls that they found a bag of coins with a gold weight of approximately 3 THB that had fallen on the ground. They offered to exchange the bag with the girls for jewelry the girls were wearing. The two thieving ladies talked convincingly to deceive the two young girls until the girls believed them, and gave the older ladies all of their gold jewelry and a mobile phone. The thieves then escaped quickly.

The young girls quickly felt suspicious, and also felt regret for giving away the mobile phone their father had bought for them. They hurried to unwrap the cloth pack and found only a few 1 THB coins. So the girls ran to find the fat woman, and notified the police, who arrested the fat woman in front of the department store. Meanwhile the thin woman had escaped with the gold jewelry and many mobile phones.

The fat woman thief was named Ms. Sumontha Srinual age 24, nicknamed “Fat-thin Woman to Deceive the World,” living in Tambon Klong Song, Amphur Klong Luang, Pathumthani province. The thin woman who had escaped was named Ms. Pathitta Varanyarn, age 35. The officers already knew her address, and planned to follow up to arrest her.

Finally the fat woman was forced to call the thin woman and tell her to bring back the stolen stuff to return to the victims. Otherwise the two women would get hard punishment, since this was a repeat crime. So the thin woman left the stolen property in front of Brahma shrine on the side of street, and made a phone call to fat woman to pick up the stuff.

The two thieves had reportedly been committing similar thefts more than 30 times between the years 2011-2012, and not including what they had done in other provinces. The woman were reportedly wanted by the Chonburi police station, Samed police station, Saensuk police station, Sriracha police station, Nong Kharm police station, Banglamung police station and Pattaya police station for suspected thefts.

In the middle of last year, the mother of a well-known inspector of Sriracha police station was victimized by the thieves. She had been shopping in the Sriracha market when she was deceived by the two thieves like the young girls had been. The female adult victim lost a lot of gold and cash she had withdrawn from the bank.

Police said any victims who had their property stolen by the thieves can come to see them at Saensuk police station.
