On January 13, 2013, at 2 p.m., a report of the theft of a 4,000 THB strainer from a grocery store was received by Pol. Lt. Narate Boonthee, investigation officer, Sattahip police station. He went to check the scene with a detective police team.

Making the theft report was Mrs. Sophin Chokreuangsakul, age 48, the owner of the grocery store at moo 6 in Sattahip. She told police that a couple had stolen her strainer from her store at 4 a.m. in the early morning.

However, the CCTV had recorded the pair committing the crime. From inspecting the CCTV footage, police found that the thieving couple was a tall, thin man and a short, fat woman.

The couple had used a yellow-black Honda Night Hawk motorbike during the theft. The male thief got off the bike to steal the strainer, while his female partner waited outside on the motorbike. Then the male thief took the strainer and got back on the motorbike, and the female thief drove the motorbike to escape.

But after the officers left the crime scene, about 200 meters down the road they saw a disabled motorbike that was in front of the bus stop at Phob Chok village. The chain was torn on the motorbike, which looked like the suspicious motorbike from the CCTV footage.

The motorbike’s owners were a suspicious-looking couple carrying a baby, so the police inspected them. They were identified as Mr. Somjit Yimpradit, age 37, from Tambon Wangthong, Amphur Srisamrong, Sukhothai province; and Ms. Duangjan Phupha, age 30, from Tambon Luangthong, Amphur Borthong, Chonburi province.

After being questioned, the couple confessed to stealing the strainer. They told police they had already sold the strainer to a second-hand shop in the market at Tambon Plutaluang, Amphur Sattahip. They said they sold the strainer for 300 THB, to get money to buy powdered milk for their baby.
