Hua-Hin-May 4,2014 [Pattaya Daily News];- Hua-Hin police were notified that thieves cut and took ivory and tail fur off an elephant in Hutsadin elephant foundation in Hua-Hin. At the scene the police found Plai Boonmee aged 65 a male elephant who was drowsy standing and had his tusks stolen by the thieves. Plai Thong aged 24 a female elephant had her tail fur cut off. There were foot prints and tyre tracks at the scene.

Plai Boonmee has been raised by the foundation for many years and he had big tusks. While Plai Thong had long beautiful tail fur. It’s expected that both elephants were targeted because their tusks and tail fur is worth around about 500,000 baht.

Upon inspecting Mr.Sitthichai Sala-ngam aged 54 who takes care of Plai Boonmee revealed that he took 6 elephants to the edge of the forest and tied them up for the night and went home which is not far from the scene. In the morning he found that 2 elephants had been targeted by thieves. Surprisingly he didn’t hear the dogs barking or any noise from the elephants.

Po.Lt.Col.Patcharapong Robart-Deputy superintendent of Hua-Hin police station- said that there might be 3 or more men and suspected that they might be elephant trainers. They may have drove up to the scene and fed the elephants with food containing sleeping drugs. After that they tied the elephant’s feet together before cutting off the tusks with an electric saw. It’s expected that they are professional and had been ordered by someone.

In addition Hutsadin elephant foundation was robbed like this twice in 2011 and Plai Sangchan aged 24 died from an infection caused by the thieves.
