Thief Steals Expat Company’s ID To Rent Cars

The police arrested a woman, accused of ID fraud to rent cars under a Scandinavian company.

Pattaya, 22nd April 2011 [Pattaya Daily News]: At 9 a.m., Police Lieutenant Colonel Nipon Pomsnam, (Deputy Superintendant of Sattahip Police Department) received a complaint against Mrs. Kanika Claipun, also known as Mrs. Somsamai Saosawang.

Mrs. Claipun, 38, was accused of ID fraud to rent two Toyota pick-up trucks (registered in Chonburi) without returning them.

She had rented the cars under the name of a Scandinavian Expat Service Co. Ltd Pattaya, reported the complainant, Ms. Duangkamol Sameravanich, 31, the company’s employee.

After being arrested, Mrs. Claipun admitted the allegation of stealing the company’s ID.    She also confessed that she sold the rented cars to two gambling houses (Taopun house in Najomtien, Sattahip and Insuan house in Mabtapud) earning 100,000 Baht for each car.

Mrs. Claipun also provided the names of two accomplices who were well-known for selling rented cars to gambling houses at 100,000 Baht per car. 


Mrs. Mayura Mukda, who was arrested for drug trafficking needed the money for her bail, meanwhile  Mrs. Tawaeesup Suwanmetha used the money to gamble, Mrs. Claipun confessed.

With additional information from the locals, the police located the addresses of Mrs. Mukda and Mrs. Suwanmetha but both houses were unoccupied. 

The police had issued an arrest warrant of two suspects at the gambling houses, where the officers retrieved the cars.
