Their Majesties Preside Over Merit-Making Ceremony for Late Princess

BANGKOK, Nov 14 - His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit on Friday evening presided over the royal merit-making ceremony for the late Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, the elder sister of HM the King, marking the start of the elaborate royal cremation that will take place on Saturday.

Members of the royal family were present at the ceremony, which was held at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall in the Grand Palace.

Princess Galyani passed away on January 2 this year at the age of 84 after a long battle with abdominal cancer.

The relocation of the late princess’ royal urn to the royal crematorium will commence early Saturday. The royal urn of the late princess will be carried by royal chariot from the Grand Palace to the royal crematorium at Sanam Luang.

His Majesty the King will preside over the ceremony beginning at 4.30 pm and extending into the evening.

There will be six grand processions involved in the rare event, arranged in accordance with the royal traditions to honour the late Princess.

A royal merit-making ceremony for the ashes will take place at the Grand Palace from November 1 6-18 and the ashes will be placed at the royal temple, Wat Ratchabophit Sathit Maha Simaram on November 19.

During three days of national mourning from November 14-16, national flags will fly at half mast.

The six-day royal cremation ceremony is scheduled between November 14-19.(TNA)
