The Yara Bangkok Challenge 2008 Adventure Race is a three to eight hour adventure racing, which will take teams of 2 participants through a 40+ km course of trekking, mountain biking, swimming, and paddling as well as some mystery tests.

“It is difficult to believe that we can set up a decent Adventure race course at only one hour driving from the city center” says Serge Henkens, the Race director.

“But after 3 years of existence, this race has become extremely popular for its uniqueness. This course is very different of what we usually propose in Kanchanaburi or Chiang Mai. It is flat here”, says Henkens.

“After 3 years of existence coupled with our extensive experience in organizing the race which has become extremely popular for its uniqueness. This year’s course would be much different from the previous races organized in Kanchanaburi or Chiang Mai.

This year, we expect to have more than 100 teams from all countries around SEA to participate” added Henkens. “What Adventure racers like the most and what makes this sport so exciting and unique, is that the racers don’t know what is next. They don’t know the course, the exact distances, we do not tell them. These unknown factors, combined with the great outdoors, are the main reasons for the tremendous success of this new sport.”

The reason Nong Chok has been chosen as the race venue this year is because the area has so much to offer to outdoor enthusiasts. The area comprises of paddy fields, lakes, canals, temples, wooden bridges, buffaloes, birds and villages trapped in time, of which can offer participants with memorable experience and a wonderful voyage trough the greenery and beauty of the Thai Countryside. Racers like to compete here also because of the warm welcome and kindness of the local people. Smiling and cheerful, they often offer water or fruits to the grateful participants. It is nice to see how the sports can bring so much enthusiasm and friendship.

“It is the second year in arrow that we support this exciting event says Olivier Saulnier, the president of Yara Thailand. Environmental issues and human health is a major concern at Yara since our business is focused on food, nutrition and overall human wellbeing. It is therefore important for us to support healthy lifestyle and sport activities. Yara is sponsoring triathlons and Adventure Races in many countries around the world

Mr Rungyos Chantapasa, Vice President of Business Development of Amarin Ratchaprasong Company Limited, the operator of Amarin Plaza’s Outdoor Unlimited Zone and the co- sponsor of The Yara Bangkok Challenge 2008 Adventure Race said “Amarin Plaza’s Outdoor Unlimited Zone realizes the importance of the change in our customers’ lifestyles. As the sport of Adventure Racing has become increasingly popular at an exceptional rate and the challenges presented have drawn interest from elite athletes, lovers of outdoor activity, as well as those attracted by the elements of the sport and the parallels with life and work. By supporting The Yara Bangkok Challenge 2008 Adventure Race, Amarin Plaza’s Outdoor Unlimited Zone presented its customers with the zone’s commitment to promote this sport, thus encouraging healthier lifestyle among discerning individuals. Adventure Racing is one of the rare sports where just completing a race for many participants is as important as victory. A driving factor in Adventure racing is the focus that is placed on teamwork, rather than individual achievement”.

“Anyone can participate as we propose 2 different divisions this year. Adventure level is accessible to anyone with a minimum of fitness. But beware, Adventure Racing is the most addictive sport you will ever try, and once you get sucked in, there’s no going back.”
concluded Henkens.
