The building, inside and out has the most beautiful, elaborate wood carvings that pay homage to the ancient vision of earth knowledge and philosophy of the east. Visitors from around the world marvel at the wondrous sight despite the fact that it is not yet finished. They have visions of ancient life, responsibilities, cycle of living, and common goals of life towards utopia. There are many unique sights in Pattaya but few are as inspiring as the Sanctuary of Truth, said by all to be the most impressive.

Architecture, history and religion had been researched for many years by Khun Lek, the man responsible for conceiving and funding the project prior to commencement. Traditional Thai architecture was the basis of the overall shape of the Sanctuary of Truth. The ornately detailed wood carvings depict the four major artistic and philosophical influences in Thailand; Chinese, Hindu, Khmer, and Thai.  Over two hundred and fifty highly trained wood carvers have been working tirelessly on the project with the intricate wood carvings holding both spiritual and philosophical meanings.

There are four wings, each dedicated to different styles of philosophy and art, leaving visitors awe struck by the attention to detail of these carvings and the realization that the whole construction is carved from wood and has been under construction for the last twenty five years and according to the guide, it will take another fifteen years before it is completed. Being constructed completely from wood, every piece being carved is the reason it will take twenty years until completion. Prasat Satchatham, The Sanctuary of Truth, should be top of every visitor’s Pattaya sightseeing itinerary. Few sights are as unique and wonderful as the Sanctuary of Truth Pattaya.

The Sanctuary of Truth is located in the Naklua area and is a short trip from most Pattaya Hotels. A tour can be booked through most travel agents, though is not necessary as a baht bus (songtaew) can be hired to take you there. The cost will depend on how many people and how good you bartering skills are. It is recommended you talk to your driver to arrange a pick up when you are through, get his phone number. Most drivers will stick around and wait for you if you have booked privately. If you choose to send your driver away, be aware that you may be waiting around some time before another baht bus turns up if it has been a slow day. You may have to walk to the main road to catch a ride home.

There is also a dolphin show in the lagoon a couple of times a day but you must arrive at the right time if you want to see this. There are also elephant feeding area where you can purchase bananas for a small fee to feed the baby elephants. If it is the rainy season when you visit, be prepared to get muddy. The entrance is 500 baht and includes a tour guide who speaks fairly good English.
