Thailand, the 2nd of December 2009 [Pattaya Daily News]: Thailand dominated play against Vietnam starting promisingly with consecutive attacking raids into the opposition area. Thai striker Arthit Sunthornphit spurned the first opportunity of the match in the 5th minute but ultimately failed to put the ball into the net.

After approximately 20 minutes Vietnam started to get into the game with striker Phan Thanh Binh receiving 3 clear-cut chances, however; he was not able to apply the finishing touch required to beat the impressive Thai keeper.

Vietnamese goalkeeper Nguyen Tan Truong played well for most of the match and was unlucky to concede a real poachers effort when the ball inadvertently bounced off him and landed in the path of Keerati Keawsombut, who did not fail to convert his fortunate chance. The setback did nothing to discourage the valiant Vietnamese team who equalised shortly before full-time with a rapid counter attacking move that ended in a penalty, duly converted by Vietnams captain Pham Thanh Luong.

The next match will see Vietnam play Malaysia who also played overnight, beating the team from East Timor 11-0. The match will be played out on Friday December 4th.
