Clinical samples from the 18-year-old woman tested positive for the H1N1 virus, according to Permanent Secretary for Public Health, Dr. Prat Boonyawongvirot.

Arriving in Thailand on May 27, the woman showed flu-like symptoms and was admitted to hospital on the following day to receive medical treatment.

She is on medication and while her condition has improved, she remains hospitalised.

Six close relatives and friends are also being monitored, asked to stay home for seven days, to avoid any activity which might spread the disease to others in case they had also contracted the virus.

Currently, Thailand has 13 suspected H1N1 cases awaiting test results.

According to the latest World Health Organization (WHO) report, 62 countries had officially reported 17,410 cases of Influenza A(H1N1), including 115 deaths. (TNA)
