Dubai, the 5th of February 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: Thongchai finished the second round of the Dubai Desert Classic carding an impressive 6-under 66 to move to 8-under for the tournament. Last years European Tour number one Lee Westwood along with British golfer Stephen Dodd and Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez share second place on 7-under.

Defending Dubai Desert Classic champion Rory McIlory, the world number nine golfer, is a further shot back in the tournament, on 6-under for the two rounds, stating “Apart from the mistake at the last, it was another really good day’s work.” Thongchai, a four time winner on the European Tour, managed to produce a bogey free round on a difficult setup which included a total of 6 birdies.

“I played very consistent today compared to yesterday, and I was very solid today hitting 15 greens in regulation and missing just five fairways,” said the 40-year-old Thongchai.

Champion Spaniard, Jimenez, has set his sights on performing well in an attempt to make a fourth consecutive Ryder Cup team, stating: “I have spoken to (captain Colin Montgomery) Monty lately but he knows how much I want to be playing in Wales this year, if can keep on playing the way I have played so far this week, who knows what is going to happen with the Ryder Cup.”
