At 6.00 pm, on 21st June, Police Captain Chanarat Nawakunrangsri, the police investigator, was notified of the theft from Miss Porntip Rubchaipoom(20)’s black, 4-door, Toyata Hilux Vigo and sent out a team to investigate.

Police met irate Miss Porntip and her English boyfriend, who were waiting at the Little Duck Hotel parking lot, situated on Central Pattaya Road, near Pattaya Memorial Hospital. There the police observed the truck, which was propped up by rocks, totally bereft of tyres.

Miss Porntip said she had bought her truck about a year ago. She had then re-equipped the truck with 20″ wide tyres, which had cost her Bt80,000. She told police that she and her boyfriend had parked the truck at around 10.00 pm. They then went to see her friend who owns a bar in Walking Street and left the truck at the parking lot. They returned to the parking lot the following afternoon at 4.0 pm and were shocked to see that all the tyres had disappeared.

They inquired of the hotel security guards and the hotel staff whether anyone had seen anything untoward, but they all denied seeing anything suspicious. However, because the parking lot was behind the hotel, it wouldn’t have been visible from the hotel and security guards disclaimed any responsibility.

Police assumed that there was a gang of two or three thieves who were the perpetrators, and who obviously had suitable customers in second-hand tyre shop owners who probably wouldn’t ask too many searching questions. Police will attempt to trace the tyres, but are not overconfident about finding the culprits.
