Pattaya, the 10th of May 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: The Thailand Windsurfing Championships, previously due to be held in April, had to be postponing indefinitely as a result of the current political crisis afflicting Thailand. Various nations due to contest the games, namely Indonesia and South Korea, pulled out of the tournament citing fears for the players safety. It has now been agreed upon, that although there will be no fixed date announced for the tournament at present it is predicted that the competition will be held in the month of June or July 2010.

Also on the agenda were the prospects for the Thai competitors being entered into this year’s 16th Asian Games and the inaugural Youth Olympics. The Thai windsurfers have been at the top of the sport in Asia for several years now and as such are expected once again to shine at the impending Asian Games by bringing home several gold medals for the varying categories. Although the teams are yet to be decided Thai Windsurfing coach Mr. Kriengkrai Sakunfaeng stated that despite the immense pressure placed on the team to succeed, given their standing in the sport, he has full confidence that competitors such as Ek Boonsawat will carry home gold for the Kingdom at the impending games.

Other competitions of note to be staged during 2010 include: the South Korean Championships (19th-26th of May), the Dutch Championships (20th-31st of May), the Turkish Championships (8th-14th of July) and the inaugural Youth Olympics to be held in Singapore during August.
