Bangkok, the 5th of September 2010: Addressing the nation through his weekly television spot, premier Abhisit announced that a framework for the proposed high-speed rail link is currently being considered by the Thai cabinet and will be put to parliament within the next few months.

Details of the proposed network remain unclear; however, several sources have reported that the link may be similar in development as China’s high-speed rail system, with the possibility of future linkages being discussed in conference.

Speaking at a reception with Thai officials, businesspeople and students residing in Shanghai, PM Abhisit expressed his optimism that the Thai economy would grow by over 7% this year and that the recent political tensions are not far from being resolved.

He reassured the gathered dignitaries and students, that the way forward in Thailand did not involve rash decisions, such as the dissolution of the government, stating that fresh elections would be held in due time and were not beneficial to the nation and its people at present.
