Thai Navy Special Somali Pirate Suppression Mission Vaccinated

Apakornkietkiwong Hospital Sattahip Naval Base in cooperation with Bumrasnaradura Infectious Disease Institue and Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health implemented a vaccination program against influenza,meningitis, yellow fever and cholera for the sailors of the Royal Thai Naval Ship HMS Similan and HMTS Narathivas prior to their second mission to suppress the Somali Pirates in the Gulf of Aden

July 11. 2011, (PDN) Capt.Paradorn Puangkeaw,Commander-in-Chief, Royal Thai Fleet and CaptainTanin Likhitwong, Cammander of the Somali Pirate Suppression fleet ordered 368 of the sailors of the Royal Thai Naval Ship HTMS Similan and HTMS Narathivas and other naval officers to receive vaccination against influenza,

 

meningitis, yellow fever and cholera, the current epidemics in Africa, South America and Saudi Arabia including Gulf of Aden.

 

Captain Paradorn stated that the location of the mission to suppress the Somali pirates is where influenza,
meningitis, yellow fever and cholera epidemics are present. The Royal Thai navy sailors were also provided information how to prevent themselves from the epidemics during their 140 day mission
