Thai Man Arrested For Impersonating A Police Officer

The Police of Pattaya city have arrested a man from Yasothon who had impersonated a police officer to extort money from restaurants in Pattaya city. He also lied to his wife and friends that he had been promoted to a Lieutenant who celebrated the promotion.

PATTAYA – March 31,2015 [Pattaya Daily News]; Pol.Lt.Col. Phasawas Sirinopphakhun (Inquiry official of Pattaya city police station, Chon Buri province) mobilized police to arrest Mr. Prasonchai Phrakorbsanti, aged 31,from Moo 3 Tambon Krajai, Amphur Pa Tie, Yasothon province, at a restaurant in Soi AR, central Pattaya, Moo 9, Tambon Nong Prue, Amphur Banglamung. He was arrested with a mobile phone which had a picture of him dressed in a police uniform.


Pol.Lt.Col. Phasawat Sirinopphakhun said that they knew that Mr. Prasonchai had acted like a police officer to extort money and to eat for free in various restaurants in Amphur Banglamung, Chon Buri province. He also told the police that he worked for Pattaya city police station and if the patrollers wanted money he would take them to arrest drug addicts in area of Amphur Banglamung in order to extort money from them. Therefore, the police made a sting operation that leaded to the successful arrest of Mr. Prasonchai.


Upon questioning his wife she said that they had lived together for 5-6 years and she said he is not a police man. During the time that she had stayed with him he told her that he was a Lieutenant police officer and worked for the Narcotics Suppression, Division 2, which he had just been promoted. He also told his friends the same lie and they had celebrated his new rank.


Initially, the police sent Mr. Prasonchai to the inquiry official of Pattaya city police station in order to be prosecuted with allegation of impersonating a police officer and extorting money.
