Thai Man Arrested For Extortion

A Thai man has been arrested after he extorted money from Cambodian street vendor whilst pretending to be a police officer.

PATTAYA-26 June- [PattayaDailyNews] at 22.00 pm Pol.Col.Suktad Pumpanmuang-superintendent of Pattaya police station-, Pol.Lt.Col.Kowit Sawasmongkol-inspector- and police officers arrested Mr Ari Araya aged 28 after he had impersonated a police officer to extort money from Mr.Kon aged 24 from Cambodia who was street fruit vendor.


Pol.Col.Suktad revealed that the police officers were notified by villagers that Mr Ari had impersonated a police officer and had extorted 300 baht from Mr Kon.


Upon questioning Mr.Kon he revealed that he was selling fruit when Mr Ari told him that he was a police officer and asked Mr Kon for 500 baht protection money per month or he will be arrested. Mr.Kon was really afraid and gave him 300 baht. Fortunately, someone spotted the incident and notified the police.


Initially, the police officers questioned Mr Ari and found out that he was not a real police officer and he confessed that he had extorted the Cambodian. However, he was prosecuted according to Thai law.
