Thai man “dangerously kiss cobra” record in Guinness Book

Young man from Northeast of Thailand performed a stunning show by kissing the most venomous snake and earned himself the new world record in Guinness Book.

Ripley Museum Believe-It-Or-Not in Royal Garden Plaza, Pattaya held a show “Venomous kiss to break the record in the Guinness Book”. The show was aim at breaking the previous record made by Gordon Clatts and American, who had kissed 11 cobras on 25 April 1999 in Florida. Mr. Kam Chaiyabootaradee, cobra show man from Konkaen created a new record by kissing 19 cobras to win the golden certificate from the Ripley Museum and be registered in the Guinness Book as the person who could continuously kissing many snakes in the world. Many Thai and foreigners came to watch the show. 

On 7 October 2006, at 14.30 p.m. Dr. Phurint Sutantaviboon, from Bangkok Pattaya Hospital made a physical examination on Mr. Kam Chaiyabootdee, he started with checking of blood pressure, beating of the heart and respiratory system and found that everything is normal and that Mr. Kam is physically fit to start with the record breaking. After the check up, officers and assistants brought out 19 cobras into the arena and they squeezed the venom out of the snakes and showed to the tourists.

General Manager of Ripley Museum Mr. Somporn Naksuetong disclosed that the Museum was aware of Mr. Kam Chaiyabootdee or Thongkam Lukthongchai abilities to break the world record and stun the whole world by kissing 19 cobras continuously. The aim was not just for the record only but it is also to promote tourism in the country. The method that was used was that Kam used his mouth to touch the snakes’ head that would be taken as one successful kiss. But if he failed and was strike or bitten by the snakes under any circumstances it is considered as void and that he was unsuccessful in breaking the record. 

Kam Chaiyabootdee spent half an hour on the show before he was able to break the record successfully; he made both the Thai and foreigners who came to watch him very excited and frighten. As for his biography Mr. Kam Chaiyabootdee, aged 45, he sells herbal medicine as profession and also performs a snake show in his hometown in Koksnga Village, a well-known tourist attraction for snake shows in Thailand.
