Thai Girls are fearless

What is it that give Thai girls such confidence and grace? Not only do they seem to be the sexiest girls on the planet, but they are so calm and cool most of the time. Don’t get me wrong, I have been around in Thailand for a while. And I have seen a couple of girls go ballistic.

It is like a small nuke going off. You don’t want to be near ground zero! But that is true of Thai people in general, they have a slow fuse, but once they get pushed to far, they go from not wanting to get physical to “now I have to kill you” in a split second. But that is a subject maybe for another time. No doubt there are times we all lose our cool, but in general I find the girls here truly amazing.

How many girls in America would work and support their whole family? And that might include grandmother, grandfather, mother, father, brothers and sisters. Plus a baby they had when they were sixteen. And of course with our western perspective, we have to put our judgmental spin on this “why would a girl so young have a baby?” Thai girls (and Thai culture) have a different approach to this. Why not has a baby when you are young and healthy? Better for the girl and the baby. The Thais love kids, and everyone will take part in caring for the new member of the family. Then the kids grow up to be part of their support system. Seems reasonable to me.

Bun really is one of the most beautiful girls I have ever known. She has the strong lithe body of a dancer, which is what she loves to do, dance. A natural athlete, she is like a braided steel cord, strong and resilient. She had a baby when she was about 17, working the whole time she was pregnant in a little food stall. She came to Pattaya after her baby was born. She had to make some money to send to her family. Like so many girls in the same situation she went to work in a go go bar. She is fearless. I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t get up and dance in one these bars. Not that anyone would want me to. But it is no easy job. And it is a minefield of drugs, and drinking, and late nights out there.

Pattaya can be a tough town. She dove right into the maelstrom and had her share of crash landings, and nosedives. Lets face it, she is all of about twenty, living on the razors edge. Keeping her head above water, when many would have gone under. Living by her wits, and anyone who thinks these girls are brainless, let me tell you, you don’t have a clue. The money and attention these girls get can be phenomenal. To go from the bottom of the food chain (as far has earning power) to making 20 to 50 thousand baht a month, or more. This is all very overwhelming, now being the family bread winner, and having the goodies money can bring. You can see it would be hard to keep your head. But most of them embrace it with the kind of bushido you might see from a samurai warrior. They become emotional marital arts experts. Protecting their hearts, so they can survive it all. Bun seems to be one of the survivors.

Now she is back home with her baby and her family. She made her money and got out. Will she stay and not come back to Pattaya? No way to tell, she has been gone a couple of months now, and I hear she hooked up with a Thai man. I know that is what she wanted, so I hope she stays….But maybe the lights of Pattaya still glitter in her mind’s eye. The power and independence she welds here may yet tempt her.
