Thai Female Drug Smuggler Caught At Suvarnabhumi With 2.2 Kgs. Of Ya-Ice

A Thai woman was caught on March 29, 2010, attempting to smuggle 2.2 kgs. of Ya-Ice into Thailand via Suvarnabhumi Airport. The Immigration and drug suppression police have been conducting investigations into suspected drug smugglers and the woman’s name was red flagged on an Ethiopia Airline’s flight passenger list.

Bangkok, April 1, 2010, [Pattaya Daily News]:  Police Lieutenant General Phansak Kasemsan (Immigration Bureau Deputy Commissioner) and Police Lieutenant General Witsanu Prasatthongosot (Immigration 2 Commissioner) announced that they had apprehended a female drug smuggler at Suvarnabhumi Airport on 29 March, 2010. The woman, Miss Suphawadi Kaenjan [29], a Thai national, was caught in possession of 2.2 kgs. of Ya-Ice valued at Bt8 million, whilst entering the country. She confessed that it was the fourth time that she had smuggled drugs into Thailand.

The apprehension was a joint-operation between the Narcotics Suppression Bureau at Suvarnabhumi Airport and the Suvarnabhumi Airport Immigration2 who had been on the look out for potential drug smugglers entering the country. The suspect’s name, which was red-flagged, appeared on the passenger list of Ethiopia Airlines-Flight number ET 606 and the officers prepared to apprehend her at Immigration Control.

At 1.20pm, when she came through, she was stopped, and her baggage examined, which was discovered to contain a 2.2 kg. bag. of Ya-Ice.

She was subsequently charged with the possession of a class 1 drug- Ya-Ice with intent to transport and sell in the kingdom illegally. The arrestee was sent to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau where she will be subjected to further investigation and eventual prosecution.
