PATTAYA – January 5, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 11:15 p.m, a police checkpoint had been set up on Khao Phra Yai road in south Pattaya by Pol. Capt. Vinai Sanitphan, Deputy Inspector, Pattaya police station.

However, when two young teens on a motorbike approached the check point, they looked suspicious to the police, who knew that a teenage gang in Pattaya was stealing motorbikes.

The police motioned for the teens to stop for an inspection. But when the two teenagers saw the checkpoint, they turned into a nearby soi to escape. However, they were finally caught and arrested.

The two boys were ages 15 and 12, with the older boy driving the motorbike, a white Honda Wave 125. The motorbike’s keyhole was levered and damaged by the thieves when they stole the motorbike.

The police also seized the sharp metal tool hidden under the motorbike seat, which was modified to serve as the levering tool to pry into the ignition keyhole.

During questioning, the two boys said they lived in Jomtien and confessed to dropping out of school. They told police they had wandered around to steal motorbikes in Pattaya.

They had stolen the Honda Wave from the port bridge of Laem Balihai, which had been parked by its owner during night of the New Year’s Countdown on December 31, 2012.

The two boys also confessed to stealing motorbikes twice before. They would drive the stolen motorbikes to show to the girls. Then they later sold the motorbikes to friends in their group, so they could get money to spend and travel.

The police seized the stolen motorbike for evidence and contacted its owner, Mr. Narate Photha, to identify his motorbike. Mr. Narate told the police that on the night that his motorbike was stolen, he had parked it and gone to the Countdown fair.

He was at the fair for less than an hour before returning to his bike. But then he discovered that his motorbike had been stolen, so he notified the police.

The police believe that the two boys have stolen several motorbikes, and there are still the friends in their gang whom the police will investigate further. The two boys were detained and charged with stealing property by the police, who will also inform their parents.
