SA KAEW – April 19, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 10.00 p.m. Pol.Col. Wichai Khamphut (Superintendent of Mueang police station, Sa Kaew Province) in the evening over 100 police officers had searched many cars that people were driving around splashing water on Wan Lai at Sa Kaew Province after the police were notified by local people that some people brought alcohol into the area and the local teenagers were scuffling while splashing water.

When the police arrived at scene, they searched inside every car and if they found any alcohol hey would pour it away immediately and announced that at 6pm everyone has to stop splashing water and the music is to be turned off. However, the officers found that there were many drunken teenagers who had been scuffling and some had sustained some injuries. The police had also arrested dozens of teenagers who were found to be carrying guns and knives.

Pol.Col. Wichai said that in the past the water splashing during Songkran festival there wasn’t any violence or any female teenagers that were in the buff dancing along the road causing traffic congestion. This type of behaviour had ruined the original tradition entirely. Pol.Col. Wichai will propose a solution to his superior in order to solve these problems for the next year.
