At 04.30 am, on 21 July, Police Lieutenant Jirasak Aep-phang, Banglamung Police Investigator , was notified of gunshots at a house behind the Mab-yai-lia 27 [ Soi Nerplubwan] Moo. 5 Nongprue. The police team rushed to investigate the incident.

Three families live in the house where the incident occurred; six people, all told, including children. Everyone was waiting for the police in a frightened state, where they immediately showed police officers the gunshot damage to the car, a Toyota Camry, parked in the garage.

The car had been shot in the boot and the back window. One bullet had skimmed over the roof and gone through the wall. In addition, another bullet had gone through the bedroom window, straight into a clock on the wall. All together, 5 bullets had been fired into the house. Luckily, nobody was hurt. The police took photos around the house for evidence.

On questioning Mrs. Bung-on Manseubchat,[42], originally from Kumpeangpetch Province, police learnt that she and her family and relatives had been renting the house for a considerable time. She said they had never had any problems or any conflict with anybody before.

However, the immediate problem started one week ago. She recounted how, on Friday, she had been driving down the road, and approaching the entrance of the house, where she found a large group of young teenagers drinking by the side of the road, some actually blocking the house entrance , thus preventing her from being able to drive in. Consequently, she said she had asked them to move over, which they did, reluctantly, in typical teenage fashion.

Later on, some of the teenagers tried to invade her house, armed with a knife, evidently intending to attack her. Her sister and she closed the door and tried to push heavy items against the door to stop them breaking in. Then the mad gang, unexpectedly, produced another long knife and began hacking the anti-mosquito window screens, before fleeing.

Mrs. Bung-on said she was told that the teenage gang were minions of Mr. Prajoub, a local Civil Protection volunteer officer. She then reported the incident to Pol.Lt.Col. Chaiporn Natongpien, a Banglamung police investigator, but her complaint had been met with silence and no further response had been forthcoming. She said she had also heard Mr. Prajoub had not presented himself as ordered by the police.

Mrs. Bung-On said, continuing her account, that early in the morning of July 21, while she and everyone else were asleep, they were suddenly woken up by the frightening sound of gunfire. Her husband went out to investigate and saw two men speeding away on a motorbike. Unfortunately, he could not take any details of the motorbike or the attackers because it was very dark at the time.

She told police that she believes that the attackers must be the same gang before because they knew that Mrs. Bung-On had filed a complaint about them with the police.

“I would like the police to take the pursuit of this gang and their ringleader, who is behind these criminals, seriously. If not, we might have to move out of this area since the law cannot be enforced anymore, ” she concluded.

Initially, the police filed the case and collected the bullet cases as evidence. In addition, they will issue an arrest warrant for Mr. Prajoub, the volunteer and apparent ‘Godfather’ of the gang, according to Mrs. Bung-On, demanding he present himself to police as soon as possible. A police spokesman said if there was any evidence implicating Prajoub, he would be prosecuted accordingly, along with his gang.
