Taxi Driver Arrested After Stabbing American Tourist

Investigation officers were able to identify and arrest a taxi driver who was suspected of stabbing a tourist, he claimed that he stabbed the tourist because he had thrown a coffee cup in his face.

BANGKOK – July 7, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; Reports came in that a taxi driver who was wanted after he stabbed an American tourist who was reported to be a manager at Caterpillar. The taxi driver was reported to have dropped off the dead body of the American in front of a clothing store in the Bang Na area. Police then took CCTV footage from angles for investigation purposes. As soon as investigation and detectives officers were able to identify The murderer or taxi driver was arrested by police forces in early hours of July 6th, he was arrested right in his apartment.

The suspect was revealed to be 32 year-old Mr. Cherdchai Utommasa, he told the police that everything happened as the two were at an red light intersection, the taxi meter went up by 51 THB, which made the American think that he was being swindled by the taxi driver, he then went out of the car, but Mr. Cherdchai opened the car’s window and demanded the American to pay the outstanding money, but he refused to pay and threw his coffee cup into Mr. Cherdchai’s face. He then went out of his car with his 1-inch knife, he added that he didn’t intend to stab the American in any way, but he wanted to rather threaten him. But the American tourist then charged Mr. Cherchai, this made him stab the American. After stabbing several times, the American fell to ground and ultimately died. He then went back onto his car and escaped.

Mr. Cherdchai is now in police custody and will now be prosecuted by police officers.
