Suspected Korean Mafia Boss Arrested in Pattaya

Following transnational crime investigation, Banglamung police have arrested a Korean man suspected of having mafia ties in Pattaya on Saturday. Transnational authorities tipped off local Thai police as to the Korean’s background before an arrest warrant and subsequent raid was conducted.

Pattaya, the 31st of July 2010: On Saturday evening, Major General Suweera Songmetta along with a team of police from the Banglamung station raided a house in SP Village 3, Banglamung. Officers had acquired an arrest warrant for the tenant of the house, known to be Mr. Eun Jai Lee [44] a Korean national.

Transnational authorities informed local  Thai police counterparts that Mr. Lee was a suspected leader in the Korean mafia and was currently fugitive/residing in Thailand. After a brief investigation, officers tracked Mr. Lee to a residence in Pattaya before conducting the raid.

During the operation, officers arrested Mr. Lee and detained 6 further Korean nationals for questioning. Subsequent searches of the premises uncovered a Smith & Wesson .38 calibre revolver, a small samurai sword and a Sparta knife concealed within Mr. Lee’s Toyota Fortuner.

At present, investigations are continuing into Mr. Lee and his associate’s history whilst he has been temporarily detained on firearms and weapons charges.
