Pattaya, the 20th of June 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 1:00pm on Sunday, Lieutenant Colonel Pratheep Thongdee (Pattaya Police Investigator) received notification of a foreign man having drowned in the Pattaya Bay of Bali Hai Pier. The Pattaya Marine Rescue Unit along with the Sawang Boriboon Foundation was immediately despatched to the incident to investigate further.

Arriving at the scene, officers discovered the dead body of an unidentified suspected Chinese man [approximately 60-years-old] lying on the pier. The man had been assisted to shore by a local Jetski operator who had noticed him struggling in the water prior to his drowning.

The Jetski operator informed police that he had been riding around in the waters off Ta Waen Beach when he noticed the man appearing to struggle in the water, swimming alone. Unfortunately he had drowned before the witness could render assistance, taking him to shore before calling emergency services to attend.

Lt. Col. Pratheep stated that the man was yet to be identified whilst his body had been sent to the forensic science institute for a post-mortem. At present police speculate that he drowned as a result of suffering severe cramp or a possible heart attack.

Rescue officers expressed the need for swimmers to have some form of company at the beach be it on the shore or out in the water with you. The many dangers or accidents that could happen can be significantly reduced or imminently handled if you have a friend or partner present with you at the beach.
