PATTAYA – November 24, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]: at 1:10 a.m., two Iranian tourists reported to police that they were threatened by Jet Ski owners after causing minor damage to the Jet Skis they had rented. The tourists were identified as Mr. Alireza Tajikkhaveh, 24 years old, and Mr. Omidreza Jahangard, 30 years old.

They told police that earlier in the evening, they had rented Jet Skis to ride along the sea shore near Mike department store on Beach Road. However, while riding the Jet Skis, they got into a minor collision.

After they returned the Jet Skis, the two Thai owners demanded that the Iranians pay 13,000 baht for the “scratches” on the damaged Jet Skis. The Iranians admitted fault, but tried to negotiate a discount, since in their opinion the damage to the Jet Skis was only minor.

Then a man who claimed to be a police officer appeared, and acted as a translator. The Jet Ski owners threated to beat up the Iranians if they did not pay the full amount of 13,000 baht. The Iranians got frightened, so they went back to their hotel and got more money to pay off the Jet Ski owners, who then separated and left.

Afterwards, the Iranians believed that the man acting as the Iranian translator had not really been a police officer. The Iranians were also afraid that the same men would extort them for more money. So they came to the police.

The police took down their testimony of the Iranians for their notes, and will look for the Jet Ski owners and the suspect cop to question for further investigation and followup action.
