Suspect Charged With London Death Of 2 French Students

The BBC announced, today, July 10,2008, that at least one of the three suspects in the tragic case of the two French students who suffered multiple stab wounds, before being set alight in a London apartment on 29 June, 2008, has been charged with their murders. The badly burned bodies of Mr Ferez and Mr Bonomo were found on 29 June, after an explosion in the ground-floor bedsit in Sterling Gardens, New Cross, SE London. They were studying at Imperial College, London and were due to return home soon.

The individual was named as Nigel Farmer, 33, of no fixed abode. He is accused of having murdering Gabriel Ferez and Laurent Bonomo, both 23, as well as arson, at the bedsit in New Cross, He is also charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Two other suspects, a man aged 35 and a 25-year-old woman, who were arrested yesterday, Wednesday, July 9, are currently being questioned by detectives. Police arrested Mr Farmer after he walked into Lewisham police station in the early hours of Monday. He was initially taken to hospital, under guard, for treatment to serious burns to his hands and arms, according to the BBC.

On Monday, students and staff from the French institute where the students were studying for their MAs in Biochemistry held a “silent march” as a mark of respect for the two men.

Police believe the victims’ bank cards and two Sony PSP games consoles went missing on the day the pair were killed.

Apparently, forensic searches at the severely damaged bedsit may continue for some weeks.
