Success of Drug Suppression and Clean Up is Announced

Commander of the police regional 2, Police Lieutenant Taing Prasajaksatru, announced the results of the progress of the program for the clearance and suppression of drug abuse, in 8 respective provinces of East-Thailand.

Chonburi, 20th January 2011 [Pattaya Daily News]: At 10.00 a.m. Police Lieutenant Taing Prasajaksatru, commander of the regional police 2, along with Mr. Wichit Chartphaisit, Governer of Chonburi, held an event to announce the progress of the program for the clearance and suppression of drug abuse in the 8 different eastern provinces of Thailand, which involved a total of 116 stations over a one month period and attracted over 500 people including students, retailers and the media.

The event included an exhibition with photos taken throughout the program, along with a performance of trained dogs used for the detection of drugs, the apprehension and arrest of drug dealers, rappelling from tall buildings, along with numerous other demonstrations to raise interest and entertain the audience.

The results of the clampdown and clearance of drug distribution and use, within the month are; 1,198 drug traffickers, 2,380 drug abusers and 65 warrants, with a total of 3,643 arrests.

Altogether, 221,361 Yabba Pills, 5.3 kg Marijuana, 3.3 kg ‘ice’ and 48.3 kg Mitragyna were confiscated along with 11 items with a total worth of over 20 million Thai Baht that was purchased with profits from the sale of drugs.
