Stress Management For Pattaya Residents

Stress is the deterioration our bodies and psyches experience as we adjust to our continually changing physical, emotional and mental environments. It has both positive and negative effects on our total being; positively impelling us to action, granting a heightened perspective, or increasing our joi de vivre – enjoyment of life. Negatively, it can lead to experiences of loneliness, alienation and anger, having a detrimental effect on our organisms and ultimately, in the worst case scenario, leading to suicide!

How Can we Eliminate Detrimental Stress from Our Lives Living in Pattaya?

So, stress can induce harmful physical and emotional effects, and as we’ve all experienced, first or second-hand, the Land of Smiles doesn’t automatically imply a stress-free existence, far from it, especially with predatory ladies and manic drivers at every turn! But, on the other hand, stress is also vital to give that essentially spice of life; without any stress, we become listless and bored. What we really need is optimal stress management.

How do we judge what is optimal stress for us?

Obviously, because of individual differences, there’s no common level of stress applicable to all. Different metabolic rates, personality differences, or just the capacity to cope, differs radically from person to person. And it’s also a function of age. The older we get, the less we can stand stress.

Studies indicate that most illness is related to unrelieved stress. Merely experiencing stress symptoms, means you’ve exceeded your optimal stress level; necessitating stress reduction and stress management.

How Can We Manage Stress Better?

Merely identifying unrelieved stress and being aware of its effects provides virtually no relief. These are positive steps you can take:

1. Be aware of your distress. And what the likely cause was.
2. Recognize what can be changed. Can you change your stressors (stress inducers) by avoiding or eliminating them completely?
vCan you shorten you’re the time you’re exposed to stress (take a break, change your location)?

vCan reorganize your time and put in the necessary effort to make a change (goal-setting, time management techniques, and delayed gratification strategies, for example)?

vCan you embark on a holistic course to restore your sense of equilibrium, such as yoga or T’ai Chi?

3. Reduce the intensity of your emotional reactions to stress. The stress reaction is triggered by your perception of danger…physical danger and/or emotional danger – the fight or flight reaction. Control it.

4. Learn to moderate your physical reactions to stress.

vLearn self-control.

vDon’t allow yourself to be stressed out.

vRelaxation techniques can help reduce muscle tension. Electronic biofeedback can help you gain voluntary control over such things as muscle tension, heart rate, and blood pressure, as can advanced yoga.

vMedications, are only a stop-gap solution, and many are addictive, Librium and Prozac, for instance. The only sure–fired way is to de-stress yourself and control your reactions to negative stimulants. Breathing techniques are a superb way to manage your stress and physique

5. Enhance your physical reserves.

vTake time off.

vDon’t take on too stressful occupations.

vEat well-balanced, nutritious meals.

vGet enough sleep.

vMix leisure and work. And take frequent breaks.

6. Maintain your emotional reserves.

vDevelop some mutually supportive friendships/relationships.

vReduce your needs to a manageable level.

vTake a course of meditation

(If) you follow these guidelines conscientiously you’ll not only reduce the stress in your life, but extend it. Now that’s got to be worth it, right?
