PATTAYA – December 4, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 12:30 a.m., a report of a shoplifter being captured at a convenience store was received by Pol. Capt. Noppadol Raksawong, Deputy Inspector, Pattaya police station. The incident occurred at a 7-Eleven shop, Town in Town branch, central Pattaya road, Moo 9 Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

Arriving at the store, police discovered the suspect being detained by employees and the store manager, Mrs. Nattaporn Jantaranon, age 36. The suspect wore a man’s suit with a white dress shirt, blue pants and a black coat and black shoes. She also wore a white mask concealing her nose and mouth. Her head was covered with a black turban, which made her look very much like a man.

Police seized the stolen items the shoplifter had taken, consisting of a bottle of drinking water, a cotton pad and cotton swabs. The three items were worth a total of 64 THB. When questioned by police, the suspect replied that she spoke English. She shouted that she is an Indian and she is a woman, so the police arrested her.

The store manager, Mrs. Nattaporn, told police that when the strangely-dressed Indian woman came into the store, she recognized the trouble maker. The suspect had previously stolen items from the store several times, but the manager never could catch her red-handed. Mrs. Nattaporn said on November 22, 2012 the shoplifter had stolen many items from her 7-Eleven store, worth about 276 THB.

When Mrs. Nattaporn saw the Indian woman again, she assumed that the trouble maker had come to shoplift again, so she ordered the staff to watch the suspect closely. The Indian woman then tried to steal the three items by hiding them in her shirt, and attempted to walk out from the shop. So the employees captured her, and asked to search in her body.

At first the employees thought that the thief was a man because of the way she was dressed, but the thief told them she was a woman. After searching her body, the employees found the stolen items. The store manager told the thief to pay for the items, but the Indian woman refused. So Mrs. Nattaporn hurried to notify the police. She mentioned the suspect’s previous theft from the store, and told police that the suspect probably shoplifted from other stores too.

The police restrained the thief to investigate at Pattaya police station. She said her name is Ms. Rogers Rene Rogers, age 51, nationality Indian. When the officers searched in her black handbag, they also found a bottle of liquid spray, which the suspect claimed she had not stolen, but bought from another shop.

However since she could not produce a receipt, police believe she might have been also stealing from other shops. The police arrested the woman on a charge of “stealing property at night.” They sent her to the investigation officer to prosecute further according to the law.
