Still Peeing Purple in Soi Chayaphum

Pattaya police gathered more than 200 men to raid for drug abuse. The targeted area however seemed to be aware of the operation beforehand.

The Pattaya police had gathered more than 200 men to raid the 50 targeted Karaoke bars and apartment rooms in the Soi Chayaphum, in Central Pattaya. To their surprise the bars seemed to have prior knowledge of the planned raid and had closed. Furthermore, together with 20 drug abusers, a big drug distributor was caught with certain proscribed items: a gun, yaba, and ice.

Pattaya the 9th February 2011 [Pattaya Daily News]: at 21.00 Police General Nantawut Suwanlaorng, Pattaya Police Station, led troops of Pattaya police officers, Administratives of Banglamung, and troops of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) part 2, volunteers from Pattaya and Banglamung. With a total of 200 men gathered, and the target area of Soi Chayaphum, Central Pattaya, Moo 9 Nongphrue Banglamung Chonburi, they prepared to raid for drug abusers according to the goal of drug and crime clearance in Pattaya.

This raid was aimed at 15 specific targets which were karaoke bars and daily rental apartment rooms within the soi. The police officials therefore blocked both ends of the soi for the raid ( at Pattaya 3rd Rd and Soi Bua Kao ). The area is a karaoke service area for male customers, the services were therefore estimated to open from around midnight until 03.00 a.m. When the officials started to go into the soi they found that most of the karaoke bars, especially the main targets, had closed. It was as if they had known beforehand that the street was being targetted by the police. There were only very few bars still open, however, without any customers. The police then raided the daily rental apartment rooms in the soi which were known to be the mingling point for drug trafficking or the abuse of drugs for teenagers and transvestites.

The results of the raid of the daily rental apartment rooms with mainly teenagers, transvestites and female bartenders residing, provided 20 arrests through urine tests where the sample turned purple ( positive for presence of drugs ). All 20 will be prosecuted.

On the same day at 22.30 Police General Nantawut Suwanlaorng, Police Lieutenant Krisakorn Thonginn, Police Major Santi Shuchert, Police Major Supachai Yuprai, along with a troop of officials from the administrative district Banglamung, and officials of the ONCB , as well as volunteers from Pattaya and Banglamung, gathered to announce the achievement in the day’s progress in clearing Pattaya of drugs and crime in today’s raid of the targetted area soi Chayaphum. In addition to those arrested for the chameleon qualities of their urine, a further 5 will be charged with being in the posession of illegal drugs and drug taking equipment.

Despite this, the officials were able to arrest another major drug distributor, Mr. Pittiya Mulasarn , 25 , residing at 125/2 Moo 5 Nongphrue Banglamung Chonburi along with 1 weapon, a Thai made pen gun .22mm and 22 bullets, 87 pills of Yaba, 2.3 grams of Ice, a dark blue bag in which he kept the drugs, and several cell phones. The officials were able to arrest him in front of the the soi Photisan Moo 6 Naklua Banglamung Chonburi . The police had been tracking this agent for a long time as he is a major disrtibutor. Considering this the progress in the clearance of crime and drugs in the area has been very successful, complying with the government aim to achieve a 20% reduction of crime and drugs in Thailand. By arresting smaller agents the police is able to establish links through interrogation and investigation until they can track down the bigger agents.
