Speeding Girl Dies of Broken Neck in Car Wreck

An 18-year-old female student driving her boyfriend’s car lost control of her vehicle at Khao Khaek curve and died instantly after colliding head-on with a pickup truck. Her boyfriend and the truck driver were badly injured. She had been rushing to take an exam.

SATTAHIP – September 17, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 9 a.m., a report of a fatal traffic accident was received by Pol. Lt. Col. Bamrung Rakbamrungsakul, investigation officer at Plutaluang police station. He rushed to the scene with a rescue officer of the Sawangrojjanathammasathan Sattahip foundation.

It was reported that a speeding Toyota had hit and flown over a traffic island and collided with the pickup truck, killing the Toyota driver and injuring two others.

The collision occurred on Sukhumvit Road km. 183/400 route km.10-Sattahip, near the curve at Khao Khaek, Moo 1 Tambon Plutaluang, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province.

 

Police arrived at the scene at the road entrance to km.10. They found the damaged car, a bronze Toyota Corona, license number KHOR KOR-4182 Chonburi. The left side of the car was severely damaged.

In the driver’s seat was the dead body of Ms. Phavinee Noyjad age 18, address 37/163 Moo 1 Tambon Plutaluang, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province.

Ms. Phavinee was a student in the non-formal education department at Singsamut School. She was wearing a student dress uniform, and had died instantly of a broken neck.

In the back seat of the Toyota was her badly injured boyfriend, Mr. Akejit Theangtrong, age 19. He was also a student in the same school. Bystanders helped rush him to the emergency room at Queen Sirikit hospital.

 

Nearby was the pickup truck, a bronze Isuzu Dmax, license number KHOR KHOR-7530 Chonburi. Its front end was severely damaged.

The pickup’s seriously-injured driver was identified as Capt. Somchai Tosa-nguan, age 45, the head of the education department at the Center of Command unit of the Marine Corps. He was also sent to the hospital.

The dead girl’s boyfriend, Mr. Akejit Theangtrong, later told police that he and Ms. Phavinee had made appointments to take an exam at Singsamut school.

His girlfriend had come to his house and asked to drive his car to the school, while he sat in the back seat. Ms. Phavinee was driving at a very high speed to hurry to the exam. But when they approached the curve to the hill, she lost control of the Toyota and hit a traffic island, which caused their car to go airborne and collide with the oncoming pickup truck driven by Capt. Somchai.

The head-on collision instantly killed his girlfriend, while he and the pickup truck driver barely survived.
