SATTAHIP – March 7, 2015 [Pattaya Daily News]; journalists went to the Chong Sa-mae-sarn temple, Tambon Sa-mae-sarn, Amphur Sattahip, Chon Buri province, after they were informed that there is a speaking ghost sculpture that persuaded people to make merit at Luang Phor Dam vihara (minster).

When they arrived at the temple the journalists found “a speaking ghost sculpture” in a tidy dress with a white shirt and black pants. It was wearing sunglasses and had a loincloth around its waist. It was sitting in front of a small coffin and its hands were together on its chest. It’s persuading people to make merit inside the vihara and to donate money so that coffins can be bought for poor people and un-known corpses.

Monk Maha Sawai Santamano (Deputy abbot at Chong Samae Sarn temple) said that the purpose of using the speaking ghost sculpture to persuade people to make merit is that : 1. To let people to accumulate for the height of liberality (generosity) and 2. To use all donated money to subsidise poor people and un-known corpses coffins.

Mr. Phaithoon Sa-nguan-boonruean, aged 50, residing at house no. 74/9, Moo 3 Tambon Samae-sarn, Amphur Sattahip, Chon Buri province, who is the caretaker of Luang Phor Dam vihara, said that this temple has a project which subsidises the poor who do not have money to buy coffins. The rest of the money will be used for offering robes to Buddhist priests at monastery (a ceremony of presenting robes to priests) in the backcountry temples which we have been conducting this project for a long time.
