South Korean Businessman Arrested for a 19 Million THB Fraud

Surat Thani immigration police coordinated with the International Police in South Korea to arrest a South Korean businessman who fled an arrest of a fraud case for over $600,000 U.S. dollars approximately 19 million THB. He tried to hide on the Island of Koh Samui.

SURAT THANI – March 19, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 8.00 a.m. Pol.Col. Wanchana Borwornboon (Superintendent of Surat Thani Immigration Bureau) mobilised police teams with the writ of the Seoul court in South Korea to arrest a Mr. John Jae Hyon, aged 51, South Korean nationality, at a house in Tambon Bor Phood, Amphur Koh Samui. The International Police in South Korea had coordinated with the police of Surat Thani Immigration Bureau that Mr John Jae Hyon, who was a businessman and the owner of a hotel in South Korea. He was arrested in Seoul 3 years ago in the allegation of swindling property worth 600,000 U.S. dollars or approximately 19 million THB which the court sentenced him to prison for 3 years, but he asked for bailed to defend his case where he then escaped to the Philippines and then came to set up a Thai style massage or spa on Koh Samui Island.

The International Police in South Korea had found out that Mr John Jae Hyon had fled to hide in Koh Samui by using a fake passport so they coordinated with the police of Surat Thani Immigration Bureau to take the writ from the court in South Korea to arrest him.

Initially, the defendant denied the allegations so the police of Surat Thani Immigration Bureau charged him with the allegation according to the Immigration Act B.E. 2522, Section 12 (7) of Thailand as a person who was issued an arrest warrant by a foreign government before taking any legal action further.
