Songkhla Police Will Bust Bare-Headed Bikers

Songkhla police will begin enforcing a stricter helmet law in their southern province next month. Motorbikes and passengers caught by police without helmets will be required to buy helmets, or pay hefty fines.

SONGKHLA – August 27, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]: Internet users are buzzing over a new helmet law that Songkhla police will start enforcing in their province, starting in September.

Songkhla officials are calling their road safety campaign “Wear a Helmet 100% for Motorcycle Riders and Passengers.”

The new enforcement measures will be enacted in four stages:

From September 1-7, motorbikers and passenger caught without helmets by police are required to buy helmets.
From September 8-14, guilty parties will be warned and recorded in police records.
From September 15 to 21, guilty parties will be fined 100 THB.
From September 22 onwards, guilty parties without helmets will be fined 500 THB.
