PATTAYA – May 8, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; At 2 a.m., a report of purse snatchers on a motorbike being pursued by the victims was received by Pol. Lt. Capt. Tanongsak Inphadung, vice suppression inspector, Pattaya, Chonburi.

The purse snatching occurred in the Balihai Cape area, on Jomtien Rd. route 2. The victims were a foreigner and a Thai woman, who chased the thieves on their motorcycle.

After being notified, the police brought forces to intercept every route the thieves could try to escape.

A short while later, it was reported that the victims had caught one of the thieves at the entrance of soi Potisarn, Sukhumwit side. However, the victims got injured after they caught up to the thieves and tried to stop their motorcycle, causing both motorcycles to crash.

At the crime scene, officers detained a suspect, “Mr. O” (alias), 16 years old. The other thief, also age 16, had managed to escape. He was identified by the suspect as his friend.

The victims were taken to the hospital because they got injured. After being treated for their injuries, mostly cuts and bruises, the couple came to the police station to see the thief.

The victims were identified as Ms. Somwang Siringon, and her boyfriend, Mr. Barclay Saydee, 32 years old, nationality Liberian. Mr. Barclay is a soccer player on a semi-professional team in Bangkok.

The couple had come to travel in Pattaya and were riding a motorcycle at Jomtien beach, when the two thieves rode alongside. The passenger on the other motorbike then snatched her bag.

She cried out for help, so her boyfriend began chasing the thieves on their motorbike. The pursuing couple caught up to the thieves at the entrance of soi Potisarn, Sukhumwit side.

The motorcycles crashed when the victims tried to dislodge the passenger on the other motorbike carrying the stolen bag. The victims got injured from the crash. But bystanders came to help and catch the thieves. However, one thief got away.

The victims recovered the stolen handbag back, but the wallet in her handbag was missing, which contained cash and important documents.

During questioning, Mr. O confessed that he joined with his friend to snatch the victim’s handbag, because they wanted money to spend. But it was his first time committing a crime, he said.

The police were not convinced, and believe the teen thieves had been previously snatching purses. However, the police will send the suspect to the detective officers to investigate and expand the case.
