BANGKOK – March 13, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; The arrest of an internet con man who victimized females was announced by Crime Suppression Division police.

The suspect was identified as Mr. Chainarong Chimnork, 29 years old. He deceived women through a dating website, by telling them he was a recording artist from a famous music record label. Then he would convince them to transfer money to his bank account. He found many victims.

Police revealed there were many complaints by victims that the suspect used a picture of a good-looking man to portray himself. The con man made up a fake name, “Janepitak Sommanassiriwattana,” and claimed he was an artist of a big music record.

Mr. Chainarong chatted and talked to girls on the phone, until they believed him and decided to be his girlfriend. Then he would ask to borrow money from them and have it transferred to his account.

During questioning by police, one of his female victims said they had never met. They had just chatted and talked on the phone, until it developed into a relationship, and she got to trust him. She had transferred money to him, because he said he would use it to do business.

But after she transferred the money, Mr. Chainarong suddenly became hard to contact. Sometimes she could not connect to him, either by phone or computer. She then realized he had been lying. She checked and found there were many female victims like her. Every girl had gotten the same information from Mr. Chainarong, that he was a song writer for many famous singers.

After his arrest, Mr. Chainarong confessed that he committed his crimes by himself, and had done it for a year. He admitted there were more than 10 victims. He had victimized the females by talking with them on the dating web site, and chatting and talking to them over the phone, while avoiding meeting them in person.

Then they trusted him, and at his request, they would transfer money to his account. They would send amounts ranging from 10,000 THB to over 100,000 THB. Mr. Chainarong estimated his 10 female victims had sent him a total of more than 1 million baht.

However the police did not believe the suspect acted alone, and must have been working with other companions. The police informed the suspect he will be charged with defrauding by using another personal identity, and will expand the case and prosecute.
