CHONBURI – August 1, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; At 9:30 p.m., Pol. Lt. Col. Krittha Pratumkaoew, officer on duty at Chonburi provincial police station, received a report of a fatal shooting. He rushed to the crime scene at house number 54/2, moo 11, Napa Muang Chonburi.

At the Kanya Furniture store, police found a woman’s body lying in a pool of blood. She was identified as Kanya Kempetch, 39, living at house number 43, moo 7, Nanongpai, Sumpolburi, Suri.

Ms. Kanya had died instantly from a gunshot in her right temple. She was shot by a gun of unknown caliber, and the bullet had exited the left side of her head. On the ground, the head of a bullet was found near her head, after apparently hitting and breaking a cupboard in the shop.

Her husband, Mr. Plearn Khempetch, 42, told police that at the time of the shooting, he and his daughter had left the shop to serve a customer, leaving his wife alone to look after the store. When he returned, she had already been killed.

Police questioned him further to find possible reasons for the murder. Mr. Plearn mentioned that there had been previous quarrels with a municipal worker, who liked to drink alcohol and usually flirted with his wife. He said they had quarreled many times, but never got into a fight.

Mr. Plearn said another possible cause for the shooting might be jealousy from other shops, because his shop always dumped their prices to sell items cheaper than competitors.

Police were not initially convinced by Mr. Plearn’s testimony. The police said the family was also involved another business they could not disclose that may be the reason for the murder. Police are continuing their investigation.
