PATTAYA – AOctober 24, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 3 a.m., a report of a patient leaping from the 4th floor of Banglamung hospital was received by Pol. Sub. Lt. Anuphong Phuangphee, investigation officer on duty, Banglamung police station, Chonburi province. He rushed to inspect the scene with the inspector police team and the rescue officer of Sawangboribul Pattaya foundation.

At the scene, police found the patient’s body among the bushes in front of the hospital building. The victim was identified as Mr. Chuchart Boonsomthop, age 46, wearing the hospital patient’s gown. The fall had broken numerous bones in his body, which had also bled all over the ground. Police inspecting his body did not find any signs of a beating or violence.

Pol. Sub. Lt. Anuphong Phuangphee revealed that Mr. Chuchart had been struggling with the stress of his mental illness for a while. On October 12 Mr. Chuchart had used a knife to cut at his neck until he got injured, and didn’t consent to let anyone come close to him. But the police made a plan with his daughter and were able to subdue Mr. Chuchart and rush him to Banglamung hospital for treatment.

But Banglamung hospital wasn’t fully equipped to handle patients with Mr. Chuchart’s type of illness, so he was sent to Chonburi hospital. On October 19, after he had recovered somewhat, Mr. Chuchart was sent back to Banglamung hospital for further treatment.

On the night of the incident, at 2 a.m. the nurse went to inject Mr. Chuchart as usual. He was tied to the bed because his relatives were afraid that he would hurt himself again. But after the nurse left, Mr. Chuchart untied the rope, and climbed onto the balcony to jump off from the building to commit suicide.

The hospital security guard then informed the doctor and nurse that a patient jumped off from the building and died. The hospital will contact Mr. Chuchart’s relatives to acknowledge and pick up his body to perform religious rites.
