September 25, 2012, at 1 p.m., a report of a disturbed man beating his parents and destroying property was received by Pol. Lt. Narate Boonthee, investigation officer on duty, Sattahip police station, Chonburi province. He rushed to the scene with a detective police team and inspectors to stop the incident.

The incident was taking place in a teacher’s house at Bamrungsitsuksa school, Moo 6 Tambon Sattahip, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province. The house was near the school’s cafeteria, and many students were watching the mentally-ill man screaming and destroying property in the house.

The suspect was identified as Mr. Nattaphon Khaochamharn, age 39. Police had been called by his frightened parents, Mrs. Teunjai, age 74, and Mr. Sa-nguan, age 72, both retired teachers. Police officers arrested Mr. Nattaphon and restrained him to calm down his emotions, and took him to the jail of the police station.

Police questioned his parents, who said their son had previously been a well-behaved boy who had studied hard. Their son had dreamed of becoming a police officer ever since he was young, they said. After graduating from school, their son took the entrance exam of the police school, but he failed the exam.

Their son was so disappointed at having his life-long dream crushed, he became deeply depressed, they said. His behavior became increasingly neurotic, until he had a nervous breakdown. Their son was hospitalized for a long time to treat his mental illness.

However, after their son was released from the hospital, he emerged a different person. He was very aggressive and destroyed property, and liked to threaten to beat people.  Sometimes he carried the knife and walked around, which greatly frightened his parents.

Recently their son became very agitated and started screaming and destroying property in their house. So his terrified parents notified police to restrain him to calm down his emotions. The police will coordinate with the hospital treating mentally-ill people to pick their son up to be cured further.
