Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) revealed that they are preparing to propose a meeting of the OCPB committee to consider the ban of shisha in restaurants and entertainment spots. The temporarily ban of shisha which is a type of tobacco that is very popular among the teenage groups will be enforced until they find out whether such service is illegal or not especially with the mixing of some drug substances with the tobacco and will consider a method of control.

Most entertainment spots often use a metal container shaped like an Arabian lamp where the tobacco called Maassel which is a mixture of tobacco and a sweetener such as honey, molasses, dried fruits including various herbals that are imported from the Arabian countries which cause a fragrance and they are packed inside foil. This type of tobacco will be burnt by the coal or heat and they have not been inspected whether they are harmful to the consumers’ health or not and there is still no known law that is legislated to control such product. Most entertainment venues provide shisha openly and the officers didn’t know whether the tobacco was being mixed with drugs. The OCPB officers are to ban the use and sale of shisha temporarily while they investigate it further. Upon initial investigation the officers found that the tobacco itself is not harmful to consumers’ health but they don’t know whether the entertainment spots and restaurants have mixed any drug substance with the tobacco.

Office of the Consumer Protection Board has said that there is now a modification of shisha the same as an electronic cigarette in order for the use to be more convenient. The Tobacco Consumption Control Office has informed that they still have not received any complaints about such a product from the consumers but they have already acknowledge this matter and now they are leasing with the district offices in order to inspect each area.
