Seventeen Arrested During Pattaya Drug Sweep

Police, under orders to clean up Pattaya, arrested a total of seventeen people, in three separate incidents, for drug related crimes.

Pattaya- On the evening of 22 February 2008, Pattaya Superintendent, Police Colonel Nopadol Wongnom, and his team, held a conference to announce to the media that the police had made seventeen arrests in three different incidents. All the cases were drug related. According to the police, most crimes, in Pattaya, involve illegal drugs.

On 22 February 2008, at 12:30am, a large team of police officers did a sweep of Pattaya and encountered three instances of illegal drug activity. In the first case, two Englishmen, Mr. Andrew Roy Anderson (38) and Mr. Christopher Walker (32) were nabbed in the parking lot of Niram Condo, Soi Arunotai, Moo 9. Mr. Anderson was caught with 59.4 grams of dry ganja and Mr. Walker was nabbed with 9.4 grams of the weed. The two men admitted that they bought the ganja from a Thai gang that hung around Beach Road, Soi 8. They said that the illegal substance was for their own use, as well as, for sale. The two were charged with possession of type 5 illegal drugs.

In the second incident, a Thai man, Mr. Boonyong (Yee) (31), address 154/1 Moo 9, Tongsankan, Uttaradit Province, was nabbed with 2.7 grams of ya-ice. Mr. Boonyong was arrested in front of the Prema Mansion on Pattaya Third Road, while he was bringing the ya-ice to his friends who lived in the building.

The third case involved a group of fourteen people aged between fourteen and thirty. They were caught with drugs on Soi Sunee, a district with many gay venues. Police arrested them and brought them to the police station.

Police Colonel Nopadol Wongnom stated that he had received orders from his commander, Police Lieutenant General Jesadakorn Napeetapat, Commander-in-Chief, to clean up Pattaya and clamp down on drug related activity
